Notes from Megameeting 8th July 2009
Attendees
Summary
David had put up a new version of the metrics document on the wiki at
http://wiki.digitalrepositoryauditandcertification.org/bin/view/Main/MetricsWorkingDocumentFollowingFaceToFace dated July 2nd. However as the MegaMeeting was not well attended, it was agreed to hold a telephone conference on Monday July 13th at 17:00 in UK = 12:00 EDT. The aim will be to make a final pass through Mark's comments in the July 2nd version with a view to final consensus prior to submission.
Actions (see transcript for details):
- DavidGiaretta to send out announcement of telecon next week.
- All to review comments and the metrics document as a whole.
Transcript of chat
David Giaretta >> (All): I'm in another meeting that will start shortly
David Giaretta >> (All): Yes, just going through your email.
David Giaretta >> (All): I need a bit more time to read it carefully but my
first impression is that
David Giaretta >> (All): ...the replacement words you suggest are good and I'm
happy with them.
Terry Longstreth >> (All): Hi all
Mark Conrad >> (All): Hello
David Giaretta >> (All): The only thing you flagged up that I've seen so far is
the replacement of "manage, access etc" by preserve...
David Giaretta >> (All): ...you want to go back to the older wording.
David Giaretta >> (All): I guess I'd go with that if I'm in the minority!
Mark Conrad >> (All): Yes. The document is about more than just preservation.
Terry Longstreth >> (All): I hear you
Mark Conrad >> (All): I hear you as well
David Giaretta >> (All): BTW - I cannot use my headset so I'll stop speaking
and listening
Terry Longstreth >> (All): I assume it's better to have a written record, but
there are times when only voice will communicate a complete thought.
David Giaretta >> (All): Yes, I was thinking that if it would help we can have a
telecon instead - I can supply local dial-in numbers
Terry Longstreth >> (All): In the new version, I'm still think the glossary
needs to be sorted at least.
David Giaretta >> (All): ...perhaps early next week after we have been able to
read everything.
David Giaretta >> (All): Terry - in what way?
David Giaretta >> (All): I had apologies from Katia
David Giaretta >> (All): ..also Simon will be late
Mark Conrad >> (All): Did you receive comments from anyone else?
Terry Longstreth >> (All): OOPS, sorry. It jumps from A to P, and I
misconstrued that.
David Giaretta >> (All): Mark - no, except that Katia said that she was happy
with the new version
David Giaretta >> (All): Terry - so the glossary is OK but sparse?
Terry Longstreth >> (All): I was looking for a definition of metrics. I'd still
like to see a final version, with no edit liens against it. I keep getting
pulled off task by the digressions.
David Giaretta >> (All): Terry - OK I remember you suggested something last
time.
Mark Conrad >> (All): Terry, Switch the view to Final (without markup).
Terry Longstreth >> (All): Sparse yes, but there was an issue of redundancy. I
don't know what the resolution was about in/ex cluding definitions from
normative docs.
Terry Longstreth >> (All): Final is ok, if all of the comments are just
historical artifacts.
Mark Conrad >> (All): Actually, many of the comments are supposed to be the
topic of discussion.
David Giaretta >> (All): Terry - there are only 2 references and Mark wants to
delete TRAC - which is OK with me
SimonLambert >> (All): hello all, sorry I'm late
Mark Conrad >> (All): Hi Simon.
David Giaretta >> (All): Hi SImon - I am in another meeting and am somewhat semi-detached
Terry Longstreth >> (All): That's what I thought. I'm too late in the game to
be making substantive suggestions (my first on would be change the title:
Metrics isn't a useful term here; I didn't say that).
Terry Longstreth >> (All): So I need a consensus document to review editorially.
Mark Conrad >> (All): Ah yes, consensus... the elusive beast.
David Giaretta >> (All): The doc on the wiki was supposed to be consensus -
apart from the comemnts which are unresolved.
David Giaretta >> (All): ...some of the editing things will be caught by the
CCSDS editor
Mark Conrad >> (All): Given the lackluster attendance, how should we proceed?
David Giaretta >> (All): Good question - it's clear that the change of day did
not help
David Giaretta >> (All): I would suggest that we try to set another date for a
telecon next week to discuss your comments
Terry Longstreth >> (All): so: changing "Unless otherwise indicated, other
definitions are taken from the OAIS Reference Model [1]." to ...may be found
in ... is something for CCSDS to do?
David Giaretta >> (All): Terry - no - we leave it to the reader to look at the
definitions in OAIS
Mark Conrad >> (All): I am on the road most of next week. I could be available
at our usual time on Monday or Tuesday.
Terry Longstreth >> (All): no - I mean to change the wording; "are taken from"
asks "and put where?"
JohnGarrett >> (All): HI all
David Giaretta >> (All): Mark - I can do Tuesday
David Giaretta >> (All): Terry - sorry if you can suggest some words that would
be good.
David Giaretta >> (All): Hi John
Terry Longstreth >> (All): change "are taken from" to "are found in" or "may be
found in"
JohnGarrett >> (All): I'll probably miss next week. I'm on holiday and will be
traveling that day, but may get the megameeting in before heading out. Don't
know if I'll get much chance to review material.
David Giaretta >> (All): We were taking about having a telecon next week Tuesday
at the normal time
Terry Longstreth >> (All): What's normal time?
Mark Conrad >> (All): 10:30 am EDT
Terry Longstreth >> (All): like today? That's ok for me
JohnGarrett >> (All): Actually Monday was better for me for the meeting. Less
likely to get caught up in other things.
David Giaretta >> (All): Monday is OK for me as long as its a little later -
later by 90 mins
JohnGarrett >> (All): Monday was better for me in general. For next week though
day doesn't really matter much.
David Giaretta >> (All): ...so 5pm UK time, noon EDT
David Giaretta >> (All): .....how about that?
SimonLambert >> (All): That suits me
JohnGarrett >> (All): And earlier is more likely that I will attend next week.
In any case proceed without me if you can get a quorum.
Mark Conrad >> (All): Either Monday at 12 or Tuesday at 10:30 is ok with me.
Terry Longstreth >> (All): Have you a way of announcing schedule changes on
TWIKI?
David Giaretta >> (All): We can send an email to the list
David Giaretta >> (All): ...I think we could reserve the normal day for a
megameeting if needed
Mark Conrad >> (All): So are we done for today?
Terry Longstreth >> (All): That'll serve, but it would be nice if we could find
a calendar app somewhere.
David Giaretta >> (All): Seems that way - action on all to review your comemnts
and the doc as a whole
Terry Longstreth >> (All): I'll ignore comments, work from the "Final".
Conflicts can be resolved later, I hope.
Mark Conrad >> (All): I will await your instructions for the time and telephone
number for the telecon next week. Have a good week.
David Giaretta >> (All): Terry - should if you disagree with anything please
yell
JohnGarrett >> (All): OK, I'll talk to you next week if possible or two weeks
from now otherwise.
David Giaretta >> (All): OK I'll send telephone details out
Mark Conrad >> (All): Thanks, bye
David Giaretta >> (All): Bye all
SimonLambert >> (All): Bye
