Notes from Megameeting 2nd June 2008
Attendees:
The discussion was a combination of audio and typed chat. For this reason the chat transcript (given below) gives an incomplete representation and may be hard to follow.
Progress made: Section B2.2 and B2.10 of the
working document was discussed at length and revisions were made. This completed B2, although
MarkConrad will provide a re-draft of B2 in a couple of weeks. B3 was started and B3.1 and B3.2 were completed.
Note that at this time the edits have not yet been made
Actions:
- All to finish adding comments to B3 and B4.
- DavidGiaretta to compare B4 with App5 of TRAC
- MarkConrad to re-draft B2 in 2 weeks time
Next meeting : Finish B3 then move on to B4. Note that we will return to B2 in a few weeks time.

KatiaThomaz >> (All): hi folks
Mark Conrad >> (All): Hello Katia!
cclrc >> (All): Hi katia, can you hear when we talk?
BruceAmbacher >> (All): I concur with what David just said - combine 2.1 and 2.2
KatiaThomaz >> (All): hello. i can hear you...
BruceAmbacher >> (All): Katia I am not hearing any audio.

KatiaThomaz >> (All): bu i´´ typ now, ok?
KatiaThomaz >> (All): i´ll type now.
KatiaThomaz >> (All): as you know i thinl 2.1 refers only to representation information and 2.2 refers only to PDI
BruceAmbacher >> (All): Mark, are we going to change the B2 title (hopefully) to remove archivable?
cclrc >> (All): Katia - I don't see that B2.2 is about PDI
Mark Conrad >> (All): Katia, I believe B2.1 and B2.2 refer to the entire AIP.
KatiaThomaz >> (All): long-term preservation needs have more with PDI
Mark Conrad >> (All): Katia. I still think B2.1 and B2.2 refer to the entire AIP
KatiaThomaz >> (All): B2.1 and B2.2 relates exactly to B2.7 and B2.9
KatiaThomaz >> (All): B2.7 (representation information) and B2.9 (PDI)
Mark Conrad >> (All): Barbara, can you hear the audio?
BarbaraSierman >> (All): yes Mark!
BruceAmbacher >> (All): no objections
KatiaThomaz >> (All): i am not convinced yet
KatiaThomaz >> (All): one think is information to interpret the information and other thing is information to preserve the
information
BruceAmbacher >> (All): This where an outline of just the requirements allows us to see the flow from one requirement to the
next.
cclrc >> (All): Katia - maintaining Representation Information is also vital for preservation - one cannot simply separate
their functions as only PDI for preservation
KatiaThomaz >> (All): i know but ié different
KatiaThomaz >> (All): it is different
cclrc >> (All): katia - can you live with the revised B2.1 for now and review it as a whoile later?

cclrc >> (All): Yes
BarbaraSierman >> (All): Ok, I agree with Bruce, it is not possible to do it for each AIP, but you need to check
BarbaraSierman >> (All): ok
cclrc >> (All): OK for me
RobertDowns >> (All): ok
candida fenton >> (All): ok
BruceAmbacher >> (All): ok

Mark Conrad >> (All): I said usable - not useful.
Marie >> (All): Sorry, I keep getting interupted here, just move on.
BarbaraSierman >> (All): ok for me
cclrc >> (All): OK to leave as is
RobertDowns >> (All): No objection
KatiaThomaz >> (All): no objections

Marie >> (All): yes
BarbaraSierman >> (All): skip it, its ok
Marie >> (All): Yes
BruceAmbacher >> (All): yes
BruceAmbacher >> (All): David - what did you mean by network in your rewrite?
RobertDowns >> (All): From OAIS: Representation Network: The set of Representation Information that fully describes the
meaning of a Data Object. Representation Information in digital forms needs additional Representation Information so its
digital forms can be understood over the Long Term.
BarbaraSierman >> (All): well , it might not be correct OAIS, but REp Info Netwrok is more clear!
BruceAmbacher >> (All): Does anyone object to David's rewrite if network is deleted?
KatiaThomaz >> (All): ok with me.
candida fenton >> (All): ok
Marie >> (All): I think the change is fine.
KatiaThomaz >> (All): inadequacy?
KatiaThomaz >> (All): instead of obsolescence...
RobertDowns >> (All): How about the following combination of the two sentences: The repository must show that it has some
active mechanism to warn of impending changes to the knowledge base of the designated community
BruceAmbacher >> (All): The repository must show that it has some active mechanism to ensure that the preserved information
remains understandable and usable by the designated community(ies)
KatiaThomaz >> (All): i agree with Bruce.
